Kelly was born in Grand Forks, North Dakota. As a child, Kelly aspired to be a pediatrician. In her spare time, she likes to run and read. Kelly is personally inspired when kids learn a new skill, both her own and kids she has worked with professionally. The reasons Kelly helped start Elevations were personal involvement. "As a therapist, I often ran into roadblocks finding financial coverage for something that would make a child's life better, and either changed my plan of care for that child or tried to make something else work. Talking with families and working with kids who just want to participate in as much of family life as they can, I was always amazed at the simple, little (or big) things that could make that happen but were nearly impossible due to cost. Being involved in Elevations is my opportunity to provide funding for those simple things that can be the make or break for a kid's success. The families that request help from Elevations are doing everything they can to provide the best for their child, and for me, that is powerful emotionally. What an honor to be a part of that". When asked about a hero in her life, Kelly replied "I can't think of a specific person I would call my "hero". I am definitely inspired by people who put their heart and soul into something (their family, their job, a hobby) and find the most joy sharing their passion with others". A quirky fact about herself, "If it's not chocolate, I can easily say no to dessert! I like polish on my toenails, but not my fingernails". Kelly's favorite place to be is the beach, listening to the ocean, feeling the breeze (or wind!), and appreciating the magnitude and beauty of the ocean.
